Kati vasthi
Kati Vasti is a therapeutic Ayurvedic treatment specifically focused on the lower back or the “kati” region. It involves creating a small dam-like structure on the lower back using a specially prepared herbal paste, followed by filling it with warm, medicated oil.
During a Kati Vasti session, the recipient lies face down on a massage table while the therapist molds a ring-shaped barrier made of dough or black gram paste around the lower back. This barrier is then filled with warm herbal oil and allowed to remain for a specific duration.
The warm oil used in Kati Vasti is typically chosen based on the individual’s dosha and specific needs. It helps to lubricate the joints, nourish the tissues, and alleviate pain, stiffness, and inflammation in the lower back area.
Kati Vasti is commonly used for conditions such as lower back pain, sciatica, herniated discs, and spinal problems. The warmth and herbal properties of the oil penetrate deeply into the tissues, promoting relaxation, reducing inflammation, improving circulation, and providing relief.
The duration of a Kati Vasti session can vary, typically ranging from 20 to 45 minutes. After the therapy, it is recommended to rest for a short period to allow the oil to penetrate and work effectively.
It is important to receive Kati Vasti from a trained and experienced Ayurvedic therapist who understands the proper application of the herbal paste and the selection of appropriate oils. As with any Ayurvedic treatment, it is advisable to consult with a qualified practitioner or healthcare professional before undergoing Kati Vasti, particularly if you have specific medical conditions or concerns.
